RALLY NO 15. Friday 21st – Wednesday 26th June




Fort Widley, is one of the forts built on top of Portsdown Hill between 1860 and 1868 on the recommendation of the Royal Commission on the Defence of the United Kingdom. It was designed, along with the other Palmerston Forts on top of Portsdown, to protect Portsmouth from attack from the rear. The campsite is on the Parade ground within the heart of the fort, giving stunning views of Portsmouth and the Solent to the front and Waterlooville, Southwick, Denmead and beyond to the rear. Next  door is the Churchillean P.H. Buses are a short walk away for Portsmouth.

A tour of the Fort and Tunnels are available at approx. £2.00 per head, (2.5 hours) please indicate if required.

Route: From the M27 junction 12 turn right towards Havant on B2177. At roundabout turn left up Portsdown Hill. Fort Widley is second fort on right. Very tight entrance (through tunnel), and access to site. Assistance is available.
